Sunset at Bagan, Myanmar
Considered the Angkor Wat of Myanmar, Bagan is an ancient city of temples spread out across a plain. Because travel was discouraged until the recent release of dissident leader Aung San Suu Kyi, visitors can feel as if there’s no one else around. “You can get huge parts of it all to yourself,” says Robert Reid of Lonely Planet. “You can go in with a flashlight and find a stairway up to the top of a temple and pick your spot for sunset. There is a big plain dotted with these huge, ancient temples everywhere, and you all sit and watch the sunset–it’s absolutely beautiful.”
