Castle is about 400 kilometers north from Los Angeles and 400
kilometers south of San Francisco, even though it is far from a major
city, it still attracts over 1 million visitors every year.
Hearst Castle was designed and built for the newspaper Tycoon William Randolph Hearst, who died just several years after the completion of the “castle”. After his death the mansion was given to the state of California and it is nowadays a National and Historical Landmark.
